We are on Google anyway, so let’s discuss all the tips and tricks hidden on the Google homepage to help you with everyday tasks, without the need to go into another website!
Use Google stopwatch if you don’t have your smartphone handy, search “stopwatch” into Google for a stopwatch tool. You can also use it for a timer by searching “timer”.
Online and need a quick calculation done? Why not ask Google?
Put in the number with a +,- or * or type ‘plus’, and it will give you the answer.
Do you remember eating in a restaurant? Want to figure out the tip?
Search “Tip Calculator”
Google will show a simple calculator where you can put in bill total, percentage and also how many people if you need to split the tip
Money and unit conversions
Google search can quickly and accurately convert both measurement units and currency value. There are a variety of uses for this, like checking to see the conversion rate between two currencies.
miles to km – This will convert miles to kilometers. You can put numbers in front to convert a certain number. Like “10 miles to km” will show you how many kilometers are in 10 miles.
USD to GBP/ILS etc – This will convert a US dollar to another currency.
One of the handiest Google search tips is the ability to translate words between languages. Use the word translate, along with the word in the language you know, followed by the new language.
Simply search “weather” and the location or zip code you want to search to pull up accurate weather information.
Search any single word in Google, and it will pull up the definition of that word. In some instances, it won’t come up, so just add “define” before the word.
Not sure what time it’s in Israel? Search Time Israel” and it will show the time for the searched timezone.
Designers, you need this one: Searching for “color picker” will pull up an easy tool where you can select the color you want and it will show its hex code, RGB value, CMYK value, and more.

Type “pac man” into Google to play it right there in the homepage! Google has several such games available, like Snake, Solitaire, Minesweeper, Tic Tac Toe, and even Spin a Dreidel!
